Editing columns

All your data is organized in a grid of columns and rows. You can not only edit the data itself, but also adjust grid properties such as column names and data types.

Editing data is not available for charts with the auto-update option enabled.

Change column name

  1. In the chart panel, click DATA in the bottom-right corner to open the data grid.

  2. Double-click the column header, or click the more icon next to the column name and select Edit column.

  3. Click the Column field and enter the new name.

  4. Click Save.

Set column default value

In addition to importing data, Charts allows you to enter data manually. When working with repetitive values, the Default value option helps you avoid entering the same value multiple times.

Set default value for new columns

  1. In the chart panel, click DATA in the bottom-right corner to open the data grid.

  2. Click the create column icon next to the last column.

  3. In the Default value field, enter the value to be automatically added to all new rows.

  4. The default value will be applied to all rows in the new column.

Set default value for existing columns

When setting a default value for an existing column, it will apply only to new rows added after the change. Existing rows will remain unchanged.

  1. In the chart panel, click DATA in the bottom-right corner to open the data grid.

  2. Double-click the column header, or click the more icon and select Edit column.

  3. In the Default value field, enter the value for new rows.

Set column data type

Each column can be assigned one of three data types: Text, Number, or Date.

Set column data type when uploading data

After uploading data, Charts automatically detects column types, but you can adjust them during the data review step.

  1. Below the column name, click to open the dropdown menu.

  2. Select the data type you want to assign to the column.

Set column data type in data grid

  1. In the chart panel, click DATA in the bottom-right corner to open the data grid.

  2. Double-click the column header, or click the more icon and select Edit column.

  3. Select a new data type from the Data type dropdown.

  4. Click Save.

  5. Changing the data type may remove some cell values. This action cannot be undone.

Sort column values in data grid

As you add more data to your chart, organizing it becomes increasingly important. Depending on the data type, you can sort the values in each column.

  1. In the chart panel, click DATA in the bottom-right corner to open the data grid.

  2. Double-click the column header, or click the more icon next to the column name.

  3. Select the sorting option you want to apply.

If the column data type is set to Number, you can sort values from smallest to largest or vice versa. For Text, you can sort alphabetically (A–Z or Z–A). For Date, you can sort from earliest to latest or the other way around.

All changes are applied automatically to the chart. When sorting by value, the chart will update to reflect the new column order.

Add new column

In addition to editing existing data, you can also add or duplicate a column.

These options are not available for charts with the auto-update feature enabled.

You can drag and drop columns to reorder them.

  1. In the chart panel, click DATA in the bottom-right corner to open the data grid.

  2. Next to the last column, click the add icon to add a new column.
